An individual who spiked treats with sedative and provided them to children at a summer camp in the area has admitted sexual offences against two young males who were nine and 10.

Jon Ruben was arrested after eight children and an older person fell ill at the facility in the summer month.

The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he denied a single sexual charge he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old child.

The accused was kept in jail prior to a additional proceeding on 28 November.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, handling the case, described the criminal behavior to the judicial body.

She said his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a youth camp which he managed.

Ruben conducted a "candy game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior said, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to eat sweets "as fast as possible".

She told the court the defendant had engaged in this activity with the children "for many years", and children had previously fallen ill the next day.

She stated the man had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had worries in summer 2025.

Mrs Prior KC stated further: "Recently" his stepson had worries about the situation, for good reason.

"They chose" to examine in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC said materials including infant oil, Vaseline and injection devices were found, and his stepchild alerted the police about his worries.

She explained the man continued to engage in the "sweet game" with six youngsters that evening - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that time," she added.

The police watchdog, the investigative body, previously told that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the situation.

The legal representative stated the children were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the stepson called the authorities once more.

She said Ruben then played the "sweet game" in a space of five youngsters.
