A resurgent Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

Medvedev, a former number one, has endured a difficult season, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - resulted in him falling of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-term coach Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently progressed in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This marks his maiden title following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface since that period of the previous year.

Success also means he has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one various competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is really nice," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my child her name, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament in the past months.

His retrieving play style and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had caused some to wonder if his skill to perform at the highest level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, securing 4 of the final five games to gain the advantage.

Both players traded break points in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his initial ATP Tour victory, took control to create a third set.

He defended 4 early chances in a tight final set before the champion broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, he earned the win with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
