Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Police report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then discovered multiple other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; investigators are currently not aware of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities announced they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.
A high-ranking representative commented the attack rendered him speechless and required to be solved rapidly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
